| My family had the opportunity to travel to Pennsylvania for a two week to visit. It had been 3 years since we had been back. My youngest son Joshua turned 2 on this trip and got to see alot of his relatives for the first time. As we planned for this trip I tried to schedule our time to be here so I could cover the market for Alex as his son was due to be born in early February. As we talked about the trip Alex of AD Farm and I realized that I would be somewhat close to a farm that has started to raise a new breed of pigs. Alex had been studying this new breed and was interested in having this variety in his breeding program. I volunteered to get the pig an bring it back on the plane with us. As we are a family of seven and have alot of luggage what would it hurt to bring a pet carrier with a 2 month old pig. As we checked in at Terminal B at Newark airport near New York City on saturday afternoon I was told an inspector was called to come over and check out Black Jack. He came after a 10 minute wait and said that he needed Black Jack out of the kennel to inspect the kennel. I asked if he was sure that he wanted to do this --- he assured me he was. I asked if there was a better spot where we could do this and we were taken around behind a screening line that TSA uses to scan luggage. This corner was on an open level with a glass wall to view the lower floor area. We placed the kennel in the corner an tried to coax Black Jack out --- nothing doing! I had just given him some food, so I pulled his food bowl out into the corner. Anyone who grew up around pigs can imagine what happened next. Pigs do not like to be told what to do. My son Johnathan was holding onto his sholder harness. As he was holding onto the harness Black Jack decided he wanted to run, but a strong 13 year old will do his best to keep a pig in his corner as he kicks and tries to jump away. Because he could not go anywhere, Black Jack proceeded to let everyone inside Terminal B know that he was not happy and let out the most horrifying squeal that brought the whole terminal to a stop. The squealing cotinued and got louder the longer it went on. The TSA Agent quickly swabbed the inside of the kennel and told us he was done. Black Jack saw that he was done and raced back in the kennel to finish his supper. Every thing had come to a stop except several security agents who came around the wall to see what the commotion was about. Several TSA agents commented about it being the first time anything like that had happened. Black Jack had the whole area to himself in the hold of the plane as there were no other pets traveling that night. Our daughter Julia had her 8th birthday on saturday and will always remember it as the day that a pig flew home with us. Thanks Alaska Airlines and TSA Agent Montgomery for the safe travel of Black Jack to his new home in Alaska. I will be back at Northway Mall this week. Thanks to my friend Keith as he filled in for me as we traveled. Grass Fed Beef will be in good supply as well as Alaskan seafood. Cheese and ice cream and butter from Matanuska Creamery. Local honey and popcorn from the Popkorn Factory.
